Keyboard and Headset Info

Does anyone have a keyboard that uses the Cherry MX red, brown or blue mechanical key switches?

I'm now starting to look at the things I want to build my new PC in November so I've not rushing in to it ;)

Keyboard I'm looking it is either the Corsair K70 RGB, Corsair K95 RGB or the Corsair Strafe RGB but just looking for an impression of what the keys feel like compared to a standard keyboard.

I'm also looking at a true 7.1 headset. I don't suppose anyone has the Asus Strix 7.1? This headset has to be about the ugliest headset I've ever seen but I really like the base station bit that comes with it as it allows easy changing of mic and speakers volumes and a press of button to switch between headphone and speaker sound - something I'm always switching between (by having to pull out the headphone cable which is frustrating). It seems to have fairly decent reviews as well. I not a keen on the sound of the mic though if one French you tube video is anything to go by - its clear but has that mechanical noise cancellation sound to it... though its a standard jack so can be swapped for a different mic.

As I say, early days and lots to look at before buying anything.

I'm still rocking an old G11 keyboard, so can't really speak for those keys, altho read some things about them, and most of it was positive.

Why an USB headphone if I may ask (personaly not a fan, remember BamBam's expensive USB headphone :))

Oh, good find tieke old bean, will have a good read through that.

I'm not especially interested in USB over sound card but it seems that true 7.1 headsets only have usb options... at least I haven't come across a non usb one. The mic on this headset though it much better than that awful thing bam uses (yeah you know you sound awful Bam :p ). Its very clear but has a slight mechanical edge to it due to the noise cancellation, which when I thought about it, I could just block that noise cancellation mic up and so that should solve the problem. The convenience of its little base station would be handy as well - again something I cant find in non usb options. The big downside is how they look... blurrggh!

Both of these option though are pretty expensive options though - lots of money - before I even start building the damn pc, so I was hoping someone had some experience with either these key types or a 7.1 headset.

BTW pauly if you looking for 7.1 surround headsets. Logitech announced 2 of them (if I'm not mistaken) a week or so ago.
the G633 and the G933 (this one is also wireless).

If i'm not mistaken it is usb and 3.5mm jack.

I have looked at those 2 but I think they are virtual 7.1 rather than true 7.1. The 933 is the wireless version and the 633 the wired version. That's unfortunate as they look a hell of a lot nicer than then the asus ones!

You asked "why wireless?". Those Strix headphones aren't wireless, they are wired. Also there are not really that many options on the base station:

A stereo / 7.1 toggle switch (would use often depending on gaming or listing to ordinal stuff through speakers).
A volume amp for the headphones (probably wont use this much)
A mic on / off switch (often mute mic)
A headphone / speakers toggle switch (use every day)
A light on off switch (yes - Id turn this off straight away and never turn it on again)

The knob/dial on the front and top of the station are basically just for tweaking individual speaker volumes to get surround sound tailored right.

The base station I would find useful and its that that interests me for the convenience. Then there is the ugliness of the headset which Im not sure I can get over.

Early days, so keep on testing me or suggesting away until I finally find a good option ;)

ow sry pauly I went a bid quickly on that wireless, my fault. Thought that by the base station, and that the pics in the beginning didn't had wires on it :).

My fault and I apologies for that.
But still they look ugly as hell

No need to apologise Black.. I don't send out hit men when you misread something ;)

The pictures don't seem to show the wire much... I guess they don't want to make them look any uglier than they already are :D

The Logitech ones look pretty though - which they were true 7.1... though I might decide for virtual 7.1 in the end anyway.... or maybe I'll stick with my good old £20 pair of stereo ones ;)

Tried one of the corsair MX keyboards today in a store near me that stocks them. I like the feel of the keys and the smoothness of the switch but it's way to light pressure to activate the key for me. Currently I can rest my finger on my current keyboard quite easily with it typing anything but I couldn't with that one - had to keep my fingers elevated a bit which would hurt the back of my hand after a while. Glad I tried it out.
