Yes it makes a little noise when I press the buttons but I can stand it while I'm playing with headphones on My old G15 might have been a bit worn out but the difference in jotr have been noticable
But I haven't tried it in BF3 yet. 
I also bought a new mouse, logitech g300, not exactly the latest model
It doesn't fit my hand (can't rest the palm on it), and I'm so used to having the thumb buttons for my knife for instance. So that has been a bigger challange to learn 
But it seems to work great for me, at least in jotr 
It moves a lot easier on the pad I have, so I had to release the old grip you might say, so now I basically steer it with my thumb and ringfinger only. The presets on it seems to work the best for me, not much you can change on it, just assign the buttons and you are ready to go, adjust the sensitivity in the game if necessary.
I bought both cuz it was the cheapest I could find at the time
